OLSEN/OLSON/GRAFF - I am looking for the "History of Stevens County, Minnesota" history book. (Possibly the text is on-line?) My ancestors from that area had surnames of "Olsen/Olson" and "Graff". I know that there is some text in the book about "Clemont/Klement Olsen/Olson" (the Norwegians used whatever spelling came to mind, when they came to America - my grandfather chose Olsen; his brother chose Olson)!!! Thanks for your help.

KNUTSON - I am looking for any information concerning the KNUTSON surname. The facts that I now know are that Nels Peter Knutson was born in Morris, Stevens County, Minnesota, 25 December 1888. His parents were listed on the birth certificate as Nels and Randine. I desire to learn more about his parents who came from Norway, and ,as the family story goes, a name change was made when they got to the States. Is there a cemetery nearby that marks their grave? Is there a newspaper archive where one could look at old obituaries? Census documents to locate the family siblings of Nels Peter? I know that Nels Peter had brothers named Hans, George, Charles, and a sister named Martha. I would appreciate any information on possible ways to locate any information. Thank you.

NISSEN - I am looking for information on the Nissen families that lived in or near Hancock MN. The names I have so far are children of Friedrick and Catharina Nissen: Hannes Nissen, Nichols Nissen, Christina Elsie Nissen Gethjie, and Emilie Nissen. Nichols Nissen lived in Benson MN also. Emilie's dob was (or approximately was) 9 Oct 1884 and died April 1985 in Hancock, Stevens County, Minnesota. Christina was born 31 Dec 1875 in Presen (sp) Germany. I don't know the date of her death. Christina married Carl Gethjie on 29 Sep 1893 in Minden, Iowa. Carl and Christina had sons named Henry, Eddy, Herman, Glen, and John, and a daughter named Minnie that married Emmert Koch (lived in Alabama). Gethjie may be spelled Getje, Gethje, Gathje, Gatje, or a variation similar to those. There are quite a few 'Gathje' names in Minnesota, but my Grandmother says it is spelled 'Gethjie.' These are relatives of hers. Friedrick and Catharina were her grandparents. Her father was Mathaus Nissen, brother to the names listed above. If you have any information to share I'd love to have it. I e-mailed the Hancock Record for a copy of Emilie's obituary, but their hotmail account is no longer active.

HANSE - Looking for any family info on Lars and Barbra or Barbro Hanse. My gggrandparents homesteaded in Stevens County, around Morris, in 1867 I believe. They had at least 7 sons and most of them entered South Dakota. One of them was my ggrandfather. Lars would be my gggrandfather. I have heard they were buried in the Scandia cemetary.
